Professional development for librarians

Assessment of evidence for clinical and cost effectiveness – one of the competencies described in Competency framework for local decision-making groups (NPC March 2012) to support local decision making around medicines and treatments but could be extrapolated across commissioning. Each competency includes an outline of the skills and underpinning knowledge and abilities needed which could be used by librarians to support their role in the process.

Evaluation of the Graduate Evidence Assistant Role Pilot in South Gloucestershire, Avon Primary Care Research Collaborative May 2015. Analysis of the impact of an evidence assistant working across public health and a CCG. Highlights include the importance of understanding the organisational environment (knowledge of public health, epidemiology, evidence-based healthcare, local authority structure, local and national NHS and public health structure; how the service was valued by public health and CCG staff to support commissioning decisions by creating a climate in which people are more likely to seek evidence, making it easier to access information across sites, supporting commissioners with their JSNA work, increasing training opportunities, helping to identify best practice elsewhere, and helping with a proposed audit of compliance with NICE recommendations.
